Mexico Trip, Dec. 07

Aiyana and I flew down to Mexico this year to participate in some Christmas parties alongside some Mexican churches. It was a wonderful time for both of us. For some reason, I feel like I can let out a deep breath when I cross the boarder into Mexico, and feel right at home instantly. I love the people there, I love the language, I love the church who with their limited funds are constantly trying to find ways to reach out to their communities. The churches we worked with have opened up small clinics where they hire a MD to come out once a week with his nurse and spend part of the day seeing patients, and the other half of the day teaching 6 women the basics in first aid, CPR, and some simple nurse's aid procedures. (dsg changes, vital signs, stuff like that). the clinic right now functions with one stethoscope, one blood pressure cuff, a thermometer and a broken glucometer. Can you imagine? It made me think of how little it would take to really make a difference in that area... I am going to be praying about what I can do to come up with some more supplies for them, and then maybe spend some more time down there.

Anyway, Aiyana was awesome. She didn't understand anything that they were saying to her, but she was smiling and loving it. She has such a compassionate heart and just sees people for who they are on the inside. Honestly, if my children grow up having the heart to look at people beyond what they see on the outside than I will feel as though I have done well. I could literally see her wheels spinning as she watched the kids wait patiently in line (no pushing or shoving) to get their one present and then the joy in their faces as they opened up the little car, truck, barbie, or dress up crown. Those children we so excited to just be there, they didn't care what they got. They all loved to laugh, smile, chase each other around, and most of all, they loved to hug. I think Aiyana will remember this trip forever, and so will I! We look forward to being there again.

What an awesome time! I'm sure Aiyana took your lead. You have such a compassionate heart. I'm looking forward to someday doing the same with my girls.
